Where are you??

If you haven't started using Gowalla, foursquare, or most recently Facebook's locating options, you should check it out. These are basically new technologies that allow users to report their current locations online, for the world to see. Venture capitalist have poured $115 million into these location start-ups since last year.

Sadly, adoption to these new technologies has stayed in the I-phones of young, tech, savvy users (such as myself). As creepy as posting your location on-line may sound, I think there's a lot of potential in these companies. Foursquare for instance, allows you to "check-in," if you check-in to a specific location a certain amount of times you can become the mayor of the location. Users can win badges such as the "adventurer badge." The feature that I think has the most potential, is that businesses can post promotions for its users. Right now, Whole Food's special is: "For our Mayor free coffee 24/7 & FREE meal at North Side Trattoria each Friday!" If more businesses become aware of this new and emerging technology, more smart phone users will be inclined to use the application simply to get amazing promotions to their favorite spots.

Mmmm coffee sounds good right about now.

I have been in school for nearly a week and as dorky as it sounds, I am EXCITED about this semester. Every time I mention to my friends that I am in the MPA program, they say: "That sucks." Although I know I'll be swamped with work, I am secretly excited about my classes.

Rodrigo y Gabriela, Mexican guitarist duo, will be playing at Stubbs this Friday night. I am dying to go! I promised my mom I'd go home this weekend but maybe I can just go back early Saturday morning. If you haven't heard this amazing due yet, they play beautiful acoustic guitar, lighting fast songs. Here's a video of one of my favorites:

Walking the Amazong

Ed Starfford recently became the first person to walk the entire length of the Amazon river, a feat that took two years to complete. What this man has done is utterly amazing and crazy.
http://bit.ly/btKgj1

I find this article especially interesting because I went to the Amazon for a week this summer and thought it was a great experience. The Amazon is a beautiful ecosystem that houses more than 50% of all species. After traveling to such an amazing place, it is hard to wonder why man kind would ever hurt this world we live on.

The best part of my trip was when my family and I went to "La isla de los micos" (Monkey Island). When we fed the monkeys, there were at least 20 on top of us fighting to get a banana; it was extremely exciting. My dad and I also canopied up a 100 foot tree which was something I'd never done before, and then zip lined over the rain forest to reach our final destination.

Many drops make a bucket, many buckets make a pond, many ponds make a lake, and many lakes make an ocean.

This past weekend I went to my friend Carly's lake house and spent a nice afternoon in the lake. I am really excited because I wake boarded for the first time. Granted I was up for a total of 5 minutes, I am still proud of my accomplishment. Tomorrow is my last day at my internship before going off to Colombia. I will be documenting my trip to the Amazon and Bogota so stay tuned!

Psychic Octopus

Speaking of octopuses, Paul the psychic octopus predicted that Spain would win and he was right.

Octopus

I got a new shower luffa when I went shopping with boyfriend. I am really excited about my new luffa because its shaped as an octopus, it even has blue hair that you can style. I was thinking about my luffa today because its Ringo Starr's birthday. Ringo Starr wrote the song "Octopus's Garden" and was the lead singer in "Yellow Submarine." He obviously loves the sea (watch out BP). So Ringo Starr, Happy 70th birthday, I hope you get to spend the day under the sea in an Octopus's garden in the shade.

Frida Kahlo

Happy birthday Frida Kahlo, in honor of your birthday, I will cancel my eyebrow waxing appointment.

Today is Frida Kahlo's birthday anniversary. Frida was a Mexican painter whose work wasn't recognized until nearly a decade after her death. Frida self taught herself after she experienced a horrible accident with a trolley. After this devestating accident, she lived with pain every day. Through her art, Friday was able to express her pain and passion. She was also part of a strange marriage to painter Diego Rivera. Both had many different lovers, Frida's bi-sexual tendencies led her to especially have women lovers.

Cold Play's album name "Viva la Vida," was actually inspired by one of Frida's most famous paintings.

Happy Friday.

After waking up to my new alarm (the two cats sitting on my head almost suffocating me), I realized: Who needs the Iphone when you have cats. They decide that they're hungry at 6:30 am, they'll do anything to get my attention to feed them.

I opened the doors to the wonderful feeling of humidity with a tad bit of rain (my favorite), got in my car and drove to work. Tuning the radio, "Its Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure came on. Despite the shitty weather and the fact that its too early to function, this song put a silly smile on my face. This song reminds me of everything that is great but it mostly reminds me of Karaoke. So if you're bored at work feel free to have a karaoke break. Speaking of Karaoke, I will be joining The National Karaoke League next semester...More news on this later.

Its a bird...Its superman...No, its a flying car.

The Terrafugia Transition, a new flying car coming to a store near you for only $194,000. This might not be all that expensive considering no more airline hassles. Best of all, the FAA has actually approved it.
The show Cops will have a blast with this. Imagine a cop car chasing after one of these flying cars only to watch it fly away and then the cop car diving into oblivion.

As if this country doesn't have enough problems already, obsessive twilight fans have created "twilight addiction." Are you kidding me? People need to start living their own lives and stop obsessing over Vampires. Vampires are not real, your husband is... Wifes really almost let their marriages end to blog about Twilight? How sad.

Failure is not an option

watching U.S play soccer and tennis today got me really motivated. Its amazing how these athletes push onwards despite only having 3 minutes left on the clock or being on a court for 9 hours(world record).

Real people like you and I will never be in similar situations (unless you somehow become an amazing athlete), but we will always approach situations where we might feel like falling over and giving up. We should learn from these dedicated athletes that failure is never an option and even if we only have "3 minutes left on the clock," we should never give up.

Marley and weird dreams.

Woah Okay I just had the craziest dream, like cinematically amazing! I want to write it all down before I forget about it.
So apparently Germany was occupied by Americans and I was there visiting my dad. My dad was a priest? and he decided to sell a bomb to a German. He had me deliver the bomb to the German's daughter whom I met at a movie theater. I don't know how I got stuck in the middle of this shit but I ended up helping the German girl plant the bomb in the movie theater. So I was at the movie with my friends and the german girl...But half way through the movie me and the girl quickly left so we wouldn't die in the explosion. Except we left our friends there to die? yay us. She put a scarf on my head so people wouldn't think I was the one that put the bomb there since I was "American." Anyway, we got on a bus to run away and the German bus driver was an ass to me... We went and hid in a huge forest with other people and there was a talking soldier dog. The end.

"Don't worry about a thinggg...cause every little thing's gonna be alright."
There's nothing better than Bob Marley on a Sunday morning.

What's the deal with pets?

Boyfriend decided to bathe the cat last night so it would smell like Pantene. It got me thinking about the idea of pets. Pets are so amusing, you have this little hairy monster living with you that you feed, talk to and treat like a baby. Pets have no idea what you're saying, but people still sit down and have a conversation with it. Do pets know they are being loved? I doubt my cat knows what love is, he doesn't know why I kiss it or why I talk to it like its a five year old, all it wants is its dry food. The weirdest part is that it knows everything that you do and sees EVERYTHING you do.

Pets themselves are so weird. The cat likes to sit in between the curtain shower when I shower, it likes attacking my feet at the most inappropriate times, he likes to put his toys in his water bowl, sticks out his tongue, likes to sit on my lap when I am going to the bathroom, and has kitty acne. The funniest part is when he plays with his food; he dips his paw in the bowl and puts the food on the floor and then eats it.

I love the weird little creature that lives in my house. Despite all its weird behaviors, I love that it always listens to me without interrupting, it doesn't judge the weird things I do, and it loves me unconditionally. (As long as I give it food of course)

Rape Axe?

I read an article on a new item called Rape Axe! I wish I was kidding. But this is a legitimate product. Its condom a woman can insert inside her vagina that has "teeth" (hooks that line the inside of the tube). So if a woman happens to get raped and has her handy dandy Rape Axe inserted, her attacker will be in immense discomfort...as you can imagine. When the attacker manages to get withdraw himself from the woman, he won't be able to remove the "teeth," unless he gets them surgically removed. The idea is to give the woman time to escape and "tag" the rapist. I think this is brilliant. Women shouldn't be scared of getting raped just because they're walking out late at night. I am surprised this wasn't thought of before.

Here is the official Rape Axe website.

Luck?

Do your chances at winning the lottery, getting an A on an exam, becoming a superhero etc. increase with prayer? Or is it all just luck? Atheist would say that its simply luck/chance but most Christians would believe that its God's blessing, having nothing to do with luck. But what about crosses, medallions of saints, or any other type of religious symbol, couldn't these be considered "lucky charms" such as a rabbits foot?
So are all events determined by random chance? Or if God really did set this world in motion does he predetermine what we do not leaving any room for chance?
